No final do s\u00e9culo XVIII distinguem-se tr\u00eas significados distintos:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O nome de um dos mais antigos dos altos graus, que teve in\u00fameras variantes. Estes graus chamados escoceses sempre mantiveram uma grande import\u00e2ncia na Ma\u00e7onaria dos altos graus.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Por extens\u00e3o, os termos \u00abescoc\u00eas\u00bb e \u00abEscocismo\u00bb s\u00e3o sin\u00f3nimos de altos graus, qualquer que seja o sistema de altos graus em quest\u00e3o.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nos anos 1760, aparece em Marselha um corpo ma\u00e7\u00f3nico chamado \u00abLoja M\u00e3e Escocesa\u00bb. Este t\u00edtulo transmitia a legitimidade que a Loja M\u00e3e pretendia para todos os graus, incluindo os altos graus. Esta Loja praticava um sistema de sete graus: Aprendiz, Companheiro, Mestre, Mestre Perfeito, Escolhido, Escoc\u00eas e Cavaleiro do Oriente. O \u00abRito escoc\u00eas\u00bb praticado por esta Loja designa os altos graus.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Por volta de 1802-1803, os advers\u00e1rios do Grande Oriente usaram sucessivamente as palavras \u00abescoc\u00eas\u00bb ou \u00abescocismo\u00bb em seus diferentes significados.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A discuss\u00e3o sobre a quest\u00e3o do \u00abRito Escoc\u00eas\u00bb \u00e9 exclusivamente uma quest\u00e3o de altos graus.
